The Dirty Blondes presents
the Beta Reading Series featuring

CRISIS: OCEAN PLANET
by Brett Epstein

March 22, 2015
Fact: In 2010, Dawn Brancheau was killed by an orca whale at SeaWorld.
Fiction: Dawn's sister teamed up with a whale trainer to take down SeaWorld.

In the dark, dark comedy CRISIS: OCEAN PLANET -- inspired by the 2010 tragedy -- Dawn is Ivy and SeaWorld is Ocean Planet. When Ivy's sister Bridget [who's horrified of whales] meets Ralph [who loves them], simple consoling morphs into an intense, complicated bond. Can this unlikely pair cause a change within a multi-million dollar industry? Can their newly formed, ultra sensitive relationship survive the process?

ABOUT THE PLAYWRIGHT

BRETT EPSTEIN is originally from Connecticut, received his Bachelor’s Degree in Rhode Island [Providence College; Theatre/Writing] and is now a New York based writer and actor.

Brett loves to write dark comedies in which ordinary people are thrown into extraordinary situations. What happens when characters are tossed outside of their comfort zones and forced to confront their inner demons?

Brett’s episodic piece Slaves of our Lives is the longest running play in #serials@theflea history (12 episodes). Following Slaves, his comedy Dance School: School for Dance ran for 10 episodes.

Brett produces the Rule Of series, which is entering its 10th incarnation. Rule Of invites numerous writers to create plays based on a set of regulations. Brett's writing has been featured at The Flea, The Tank, TinyRhino, New York Madness, UCB, The Actors Project, Gallery Players, Altruistic Theater and Nylon Fusion Collective. Recently, eight of his original monologues have been published in Monologues to Go.
